Hi, We’re rooted ranch.
A sanctuary where we reconnect to land, legacy, and liberation.
ROOTed Ranch answers a long history of exclusion from the outdoors. We're a Black and Indigenous-led sanctuary in Idlewild, MI—once known as Black Eden. What began as a family dream has evolved into a collective movement where Black, Indigenous, disabled, 2SLGBTQIA+, and people from different walks of faith can reclaim rest, learn, and reconnect—without explanation or compromise. Here, we gather around fires, walk barefoot on the earth, and plant seeds for future generations.
Our Approach
Where we are
We’ve purchased land in Idlewild and begun building programs and community gatherings with local partners—rooting into a place where nature is inherently safe, and our people are welcomed and held in it.
We’re building ROOTed Ranch step by step, guided by legacy and looking toward liberation. Our approach is simple: create space now, and grow into what our people need next.
Where We’re going
By 2030, ROOTed Ranch will be a year-round sanctuary with camps, restorative programs, and pathways to meaningful work. Our vision is flexible: we meet the needs of our community in the moment and grow with them, ready to pivot as those needs evolve.
